FAQ
What is Insights and charts?
A Forge app that turns Jira into interactive, cross-filterable dashboards. You build charts over your issues, click any segment to refilter the whole page, and group by derived metrics like cycle time and time-in-status. See the overview.
Does it work on Jira Server or Data Center?
No. It's an Atlassian Forge app and runs on Jira Cloud only.
Does my data leave Atlassian?
No. It's pure Forge — no external servers and no data egress. See Security.
Do I need to be an admin?
A Jira administrator installs the app. After that, anyone with access can build and view dashboards (subject to each dashboard's sharing settings and their own Jira permissions).
How are cycle time and time-in-status calculated?
From each issue's change history, replayed into precomputed, indexed values and refreshed daily — so charts read precomputed metrics rather than re-deriving them on every load. See Derived metrics.
How many issues can it handle?
It's built to scale to large Jira projects — charts aggregate counts efficiently and stay accurate as your data grows.
Can I group by a field that isn't built in?
You can group by all the common fields plus derived dimensions (see Dimensions & measures). For anything else, scope the dataset with custom JQL and group by a supported dimension.
Can I chart across multiple projects?
Yes — use a cross-project saved filter or custom JQL dataset. Note that the derived-metric and flow-history charts are computed per-project, so those work best on a single project dataset. See Datasets.
Can I share a dashboard with people who aren't licensed for the app?
You can share within the app (viewers/editors) and share a link to a specific view. There is no anonymous public link today — sharing always goes through Jira access. See Sharing, export & gadgets.
Can I put these charts on a normal Jira dashboard?
Yes. Add the native Insights chart & filter gadget to any Jira dashboard; it can also cross-filter the other Insights gadgets on that page. See Sharing, export & gadgets.
How is it licensed?
Through the Atlassian Marketplace. See the Marketplace listing for current pricing and trial terms.
Something looks wrong — where do I start?
See Troubleshooting.
